The office air hung thick with the scent of stale coffee and desperation. Michael, hunched over his computer, felt a bone-deep lassitude. Sleep had become a distant memory, replaced by a constant hum of mental fatigue. He saw Jessica, his friend, strutting into the cafe across the street. She looked stunning, as always, radiating an aura of effortless style. Her stories of networking events and creative projects always filled him with a mixture of envy and respect. But, wait...that wasn't the building of the company she always told everyone about.

His mind swam. He felt a weird, sinking feeling. The words seemed to stick in his throat. He just wanted to disappear.
